Ugandan drums
Ugandan drums (engoma) play an important role in traditional music. Drums bring the power that drives the performance and can be used for "talking": sending information and signals by imitating Speech since many African languages are both tonal and rhythmic.
Types of drum
- Embuutu: a large drum
- Enpunyi (bass drum): traditionally hand-carved from old hardwood trees, with a head made of hide.
- Engalabi (long drum): a drum with a head made of reptile skin nailed to a wooden sound body. It has important roles in ceremonies and in theater. It is played with the hands
- Namunjoloba - lead drum
